Steel Import Permits Decrease 15 Percent August Import Market Share at 20 Percent
09/01/2010- Washington, D.C. - Based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that steel import permit applications for the month of August totaled 2,082,000 net tons (NT).
North American Steel Industry Honors the Steel Food Can

Preliminary Steel Imports up 19% in July
08/24/2010- Washington, D.C. – Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that the U.S. imported a total of 2,415,000 net tons (NT) of steel in July, including 1,797,000 NT of finished steel (up 19% and 15% respectively from June data).

08/19/2010- WASHINGTON, D.C. – AISI’s Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) Steel Bridge Task Force and the AASHTO (American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials) Technical Committee for Structural Steel Design have named Justin Ocel, Ph.D., P.E., as the 2010 recipient of the Robert J. Dexter Memorial Lecture.
June Steel Shipments Down 0.7 Percent From May
08/16/2010- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of June 2010, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,292,203 net tons, a 0.7 percent decrease from the 7,345,455 net tons shipped in the previous month, May 2010, and a 52.0 percent increase from the 4,797,256 net tons shipped in June 2009.

AK Steel Adding Jobs
09/02/2010- Increased orders are boosting productivity at AK Steel, meaning hundreds of new jobs at the Middletown Works, according to a report in the Hamilton Journal-News.
SSAB Steps Up Plate Output On Stronger Demand
09/01/2010- SSAB’s Oxelösund steelworks in Sweden has hired around 100 additional staff over the course of the year in response to strong foreign demand for the plant’s speciality plate products, particularly from Asia. “We are hoping to expand output”, the plant's chief, Per Ahl, told local newspaper Södermanlands Nyheter, “and are still looking for staff.”

09/01/2010- PITTSBURGH - If the U.S. Commerce Department won't investigate China's alleged practice of manipulating its currency to gain unfair trade advantages, the North American steel industry is hoping Congress will.
US Foreign Trade Plan Could Irk China
08/28/2010- WASHINGTON -- The United States on Thursday announced plans to toughen rules against what it sees as unfair foreign trade practices, proposing a number of changes likely to irk China, its biggest import supplier.
