June Steel Shipments Down 0.9 Percent From Prior Month
August 8, 2023Down 3.6 Percent YTD in 2023 from Same Period in 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of June 2023, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,655,692 net tons, a 0.6 percent increase from the 7,606,332 net tons shipped in June 2022. Shipments were down 0.9 percent from the 7,721,633 net tons shipped in the previous month, May 2023. Shipments year-to-date in 2023 are 44,315,846 net tons, down 3.6% vs. 2022 shipments of 45,973,141 net tons for six months.
A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2023 to the first six months of 2022 shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 3 percent, cold rolled sheet, down 1 percent and corrosion resistant sheet, down 3 percent.
