January Steel Shipments Up 3.6 Percent From Prior Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of January 2023, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,148,270 net tons, a 3.6 percent increase from the 6,901,567 net tons shipped in the previous month December 2022, and a 7.9 percent decrease from the 7,757,807 net tons shipped in January 2022.
A comparison of January 2023 shipments to the month of January 2022 shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, down 12 percent, cold rolled sheet, down 10 percent and corrosion resistant sheet and strip, down 7 percent.
