AISI Commends Senate Finance Committee Report Out of U.S. International Trade Commission Nominees
July 14, 2026Washington, D.C. – Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), issued the following comments today as the Senate Finance Committee voted to report out a slate of five nominees to the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). The nominees will now be considered by the full Senate. The nominees are: Brett Doyle; David Foley, Jr.; Peter-Anthony Pappas; Bartholomew Thanhauser and Samuel Negatu.
“The American steel industry depends on a fully functioning ITC to enforce our nation’s trade laws. For years, the Commission has operated without its full complement of six commissioners, creating unnecessary risk to the timely administration of the antidumping and countervailing duty laws that are critical to American steel producers and the workers they employ.
“We are encouraged that the Senate Finance Committee has advanced this bipartisan slate of nominees to ensure the Commission has in place its full complement of commissioners. Restoring the ITC to full strength will help ensure that trade remedy investigations move forward without disruption and that American manufacturers continue to receive a fair and timely hearing as to whether dumped and/or subsidized imports are injuring or threatening injury to an American industry.
“AISI urges swift action by the full Senate to confirm these nominations so that the ITC can carry out its full range of responsibilities, including its critical role in enforcing the trade laws that help level the playing field for American steel producers competing against unfairly traded imports.”
