October Steel Shipments Up 21.7 Percent From Prior Year

Up 17.5 Percent YTD in 2021 from Same Period in 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of October 2021, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,215,071 net tons, a 21.7 percent increase from the 6,747,709 net tons shipped in October 2020. Shipments were up 1.6 percent from the 8,085,384 net tons shipped in the previous month, September 2021. Shipments year-to-date in 2021 are 78,954,052 net tons, a 17.5 percent increase vs. 2020 shipments of 67,197,068 for ten months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2021 to the first ten months of 2020 shows the following changes: corrosion-resistant sheet and strip, up 21 percent, cold rolled sheet, up 17 percent, and hot rolled sheet, up 12 percent.
