AISI Comments on Senate Committee Passage of Highway Legislation
July 30, 2019WASHINGTON, DC – Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), today issued a statement in reaction to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works’ (EPW) passage of the America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act of 2019:
“The bill makes sorely needed investments in the nation’s infrastructure and is a significant step to rebuilding America’s surface transportation system. It provides for a five year authorization of funding from the Highway Trust Fund for federal-aid highways and includes provisions to cut red tape that can prevent the timely completion of infrastructure projects. An efficient and robust transportation network is essential to the competitiveness of the domestic steel industry, its customers and suppliers, and American manufacturing as a whole. AISI commends Chairman Barrasso, Ranking Member Carper and members of the EPW committee for their bipartisan efforts in advancing this legislation. We urge the full Senate to take up and pass long-term surface transportation legislation in coming months.”
