October Steel Shipments up 1.9% from Prior Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of October 2019, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,914,276 net tons, a 1.9 percent increase from the 7,767,310 net tons shipped in the previous month, September 2019, and a 3.2 percent decrease from the 8,174,754 net tons shipped in October 2018. Shipments year-to-date in 2019 are 80,492,022 net tons, a 1.1 percent increase vs. 2018 shipments of 79,643,381 net tons for ten months.

A comparison of October shipments to the previous month of September shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 3 percent, cold rolled sheets, up 2 percent and hot rolled sheets, no change.
