AISI Praises Pete Visclosky upon Announcement of his Retirement
November 6, 2019WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute’s (AISI) president and CEO Thomas J. Gibson today issued the following statement in reaction to the announcement by Rep. Pete Visclosky (D-IN) that he will not seek re-election in 2020:
“Pete Visclosky has always been a champion of the steel industry and our workers during his 35 years in Congress. As the former chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus, Pete has been a leading advocate in Washington for the men and women working not only in Indiana’s steel mills but in mills all across the country. He has led the fight for government action to curb unfair foreign trade practices, including successfully securing the passage and enactment of trade enforcement legislation which made improvements to our antidumping and countervailing duty laws for the first time in over 20 years. For this work and his tireless dedication to our industry, AISI presented him with our Steel Champion Award in 2016. All of us in the North American steel industry are deeply grateful for Pete Visclosky’s leadership. We will miss him in Congress, and we wish him well.”
