The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) serves as the voice of the American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI is seeking a strategic, experienced and highly skilled professional to serve as Director of Statistics. This position publishes industry reports on production and product trends for domestic steel mill manufacturing, requiring the establishment and maintenance of data exchange relationships with all significant U.S. producers and supports internal AISI data needs and analysis.

About the Role
The Director of Statistics leads AISI’s industry data and reporting function, producing statistical publications that track production, shipments, and trade trends across domestic steel mill manufacturing. This role is central to maintaining accurate, timely industry data, requiring close, ongoing coordination with U.S. steel producers to sustain a reliable data exchange. The Director also supports internal AISI data needs, member and public inquiries, and major industry presentations and reports. This position will report to the Senior Vice President of Public Policy.

Key Responsibilities
• Publishes recurring weekly and monthly domestic production reports, including Raw Steel Production and Shipments by Product Type, covering the U.S. industry
• Compiles and organizes import and export trade data to calculate U.S. apparent supply figures, and prepares twice-monthly press releases highlighting the most timely import trends
• Leads production of the Annual Statistical Report, the longest-running statistical series in North American manufacturing
• Maintains the online statistical database and reporting platform made available to members and the public on a subscription basis
• Responds to statistical inquiries from the general public, government agencies, AISI producer members, and AISI staff
• Supports major presentations and steel-related reports, including indirect steel trade, as part of broader AISI activities

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 years of experience with trade association and/or administration; Capitol Hill experience a plus
• Proficiency with business software used for data handling, including Excel and Access
• Minimum of 5 years of experience preparing business analysis reports
• Strong organizational, analytical, and review skills
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple recurring reporting deadlines

Salary range is $100,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience.
