February Steel Shipments Down 5.4 Percent From Prior Month

Unchanged YTD in 2025 from Same Period in 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of February 2025, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,035,936 net tons, a 0.9 percent decrease from the 7,097,512 net tons shipped in February 2024. Shipments were down 5.4 percent from the 7,435,458 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2025. Shipments year-to-date in 2025 are 14,471,991 net tons, unchanged vs. 2024 shipments of 14,481,866 net tons for two months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2025 to the first two months of 2024 shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet and strip, up 3 percent, corrosion resistant sheet and strip, down 3 percent and hot rolled sheet and strip, down 6 percent.
