This design tool provides an overview of North American Specification and the AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual, outlines the overall consideration of cold-formed steel design, and draws the correlations between the Specification design provisions and the corresponding design tables, charts and examples provided in the Design Manual.

The AISI Design Guide for Cold-Formed Steel Purlin Roof Framing Systems provides information for the designer of single span and continuous multiple span steel purlin-supported roof systems with an emphasis on the design anchorage systems.

The Design Guide is based on the American Iron and Steel Institute AISI S100-07, North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, 2007 Edition.

This document supplements the 2007 Edition of the North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members and its Commentary. The Supplement includes the following major changes: (1) modify Section F1.1, Load and Resistance Factor Design and Limit States Design, to recognize that the behavior and probability of failure for a composite interior partition wall stud differs from the direct load-bearing system, and (2) add the reference to Supplement No. 1 of AISI S213, the North American Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing • Lateral Design is included. The corresponding Commentary changes are provided. The Supplement also has included errata to the North American Specification.

The 2007 North American Specification supersedes the previous AISI Cold-Formed Steel Specifications, and Canadian S-136, the Cold Formed Steel Structural Members, and also the 2001 North American Specification.

The Specification provides design methodology for determining the strengths (capacities) of cold-formed steel structural members.
