For Indiana, manufacturing jobs make up 20 percent of employment, and the average annual wage is 55 percent higher than the average annually for all other sectors. Indiana has also remained for more than two decades the No. 1 steel-producing state in the nation, in an industry that adds $350 billion to the national economy and 1.2 million jobs.
