Holds Environmental Briefing on Capitol Hill
AISI
held an environmental briefing on Capitol Hill on April
24, highlighting the industry's efforts to reduce its
environmental footprint through research projects at
universities around the country. Speakers at the briefing
included AISI Chairman-elect and Chairman of The Timken
Company, Ward J. "Tim" Timken, keynote speaker
Professor Donald R. Sadoway from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology (MIT), AISI President and CEO Andrew G.
Sharkey, III and AISI Vice President, Manufacturing
and Technology, Lawrence Kavanagh.

AISI
To Explore Climate Change Issue at 2007 General Meeting
With
regulations aimed at reducing climate change looming
on the horizon, the question becomes: What will be advanced
at a policy level to achieve significant results while
keeping domestic manufacturers globally competitive?
AISI will explore all sides of this issue during a panel
discussion at its 115th General Meeting, which will
be held May 6-8 at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas
in Henderson, Nevada.

Great Designs in Steel Seminar 2007 featured 38
technical presentations and 20 exhibits, drawing
standing-room only attendance.

Great
Designs in Steel Seminar Draws Over 1000 Attendees
AISI's
Great Designs in Steel Seminar once again drew standing-room-only
attendance with 1,051 automotive engineers and designers,
Tier One and Tier Two suppliers and academia at the
March 7, 2007 event. OEMs represented included GM, Ford,
DaimlerChrysler, Honda, BMW, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai,
Mercedes and Porsche. The seminar featured 38 technical
presentations and 20 exhibits.

Applauds Passage of the Metals Initiative Reauthorization
Bill
AISI
applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for passing
H.R. 1126, which reauthorizes the Metals Initiative,
a public-private cost-sharing research partnership to
develop technologies in the metals industries. Originally
authorized by the 100th Congress, these research projects
aim to strengthen the competitiveness of U.S. industry,
improve the environment and increase energy efficiency.

Through
the FeMET and STEEL Scholarship programs students
receive two-year scholarships and summer internship
opportunities in the steel industry.
|

AISI
Members Participate in FeMET and STEEL Scholarship Programs
The
Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today (FeMET) and Steel
Engineering Education Link (STEEL) Scholarship programs,
both partnerships between AISI and the Association for
Iron & Steel Technology Foundation (AIST Foundation),
are in full swing for 2007. FeMET awards two-year scholarships
and summer internships to students pursuing metallurgy
and materials science degrees and STEEL awards two-year
scholarships and summer internships to students in all
other engineering disciplines.
