Curriculum Development Grants program works to
provide students with the most up-to-date curriculum
in ferrous metallurgy.

FeMET
Initiative Awards 2006-2007 Curriculum Development Grants
AISI
and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology
Foundation's (AIST) "Ferrous Metallurgy Education
Today," or FeMET Initiative, has awarded its curriculum
development grants for the 2006-2007 school year. Five
university professors have been awarded $5,000 each
to fund proposals designed to enhance or update industry
curriculum in ferrous metallurgy programs.

AISI
Participates in U.S.-China Steel Dialogue
The
second U.S.-China Steel Dialogue (UCSD) took place October
19-20, 2006 in Beijing and, unlike the first meeting,
included participation by Chinese officials from the
National Development Reform Commission (NDRC).

Members
of The Metal Initiative (TMI) are changing the way that
building owners think about steel. For the first time,
systems and component manufacturers are working together
through TMI to challenge the competitive materials industries,
and the effort is paying off. In meetings with building
owners of "heavy hitter" companies like Wal-Mart,
Home Depot, JC Penney, and Microsoft, TMI experts directly
answer questions that the group may have about metal
roofing.

EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson Speaks to AISI Board
Administrator
Stephen Johnson of the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) spoke at AISI's October Board of Directors
Meeting on October 27. Administrator Johnson praised
AISI for its continued environmental efforts and touched
on several environmental issues that relate to the steel
industry.

pole linemen in the Gulf Coast region will be
trained on how to install steel distribution poles
in the area.

Steel
Industry Hosts First Steel Distribution Pole Workshop
in Gulf Coast Region
AISI
will host its first-ever workshop in the Gulf Coast
region to train a new generation of linemen on installing
steel distribution poles in the area. The workshop,
geared for regional utility pole linemen, will take
place on November 29 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community
College's George County Center in Lucedale.

AISI's
Wheels Task Force and the College for Creative Studies
Unveil Next Generation Styled Steel Wheels
Inspired
design and steel wheel technology came together on October
11, 2006 when AISI's Wheels Task Force and 20 senior
transportation design students from the College for
Creative Studies (CCS), Detroit, Mich., unveiled designs
for a new generation of 18-20 inch styled steel wheels
before an audience and judging panel of top engineers,
designers and OEMs from the wheels and steel industry.
