Sustainability Benefits of Steel Promoted at USGBC Greenbuild International Conference and Expo

AISI’s Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) represented steel as the “green” construction choice at the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Greenbuild International Conference and Expo on November 11-13, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. As Gold Sponsors, SMDI and AISC presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the Exhibit Hall and reception. David C. Jeanes, SMDI president, delivered the opening remarks at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Greenbuild conference drew more than 28,000 green building industry professionals together to learn about the latest advancements in green building design, construction, project financing and building management.

SMDI, AISC and the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI) shared a 10’ X 20’ booth that highlighted steel’s energy and resource savings, as well as its recycling benefits. In addition, the Cool Metal Roofing Coalition, Metal Roofing Alliance, and other exhibitors related to steel products were at the show. AISI prepared and distributed a special, easy-to-read map listing all the steel related exhibitors and their locations on the show floor. Information on LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points that can be earned through building with steel is available at www.steel.org. SMDI and AISC also held a press conference on November 12. For more information, contact Debbie Bennett.
