2008 Overall Steel Recycling Rate Hits All-Time HighThe Steel Recycling Institute (SRI) has announced that the overall steel recycling rate for the world’s, and America’s, most recycled material—steel—reached a record high of 83.3 percent. This means that more than 82 million tons of domestic steel scrap was charged in to furnaces, both in the United States and abroad, to make new steel products to be used by the steel industry’s customers in meeting consumers’ needs.

Sustainability Benefits of Steel Promoted at USGBC Greenbuild International Conference and ExpoAISI’s Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) represented steel as the “green” construction choice at the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Greenbuild International Conference and Expo on November 11-13, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. As Gold Sponsors, SMDI and AISC presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the Exhibit Hall and reception.

AISI Trains Students on Installation, Maintenance of Steel Utility Poles for Storm Restoration ProgramAISI’s Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) conducted a Steel Distribution Pole Lineman Training Workshop on November 17-19, 2009 at the Southeast Lineman Training Center (SLTC) in Trenton, Georgia. The workshop included classroom and hands-on demonstrations that cover the basics of handling, drilling, installing and climbing steel distribution poles.
