AISI 2009 General Meeting Highlights “Global Challenges – Global Solutions”

On May 3-5, AISI held its 117th General Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz. in conjunction with the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI). This was our sixth year meeting with MSCI – with combined attendance totaling just over 300. The audience was comprised of senior executives from the metals industry, both producers and service centers, as well as invited guests from allied organizations, private industry, the government and media.

AISI President and CEO Thomas J. Gibson welcomed attendees in the joint opening session, and Bob Weidner, chief executive of MSCI paid tribute to MSCI in celebration of its 100-year anniversary. Weidner concluded with a video clip highlighting the important role the metals industry has played throughout history.

Member feedback on the program has been very positive – with some saying this year’s sessions were the best they’ve attended in years. Attendance at the sessions was strong, with a full house throughout the day-and-a-half program and little to no drop off in the afternoon. AISI and MSCI will report attendee evaluation results to their members in the end of May, when the online evaluation tallies are expected to be completed.
