Canned Food Alliance Returns to Home Economics

Lauren Groveman
Lauren Groveman, home economics expert

With the current economy causing families to become more value-conscious, families are preparing more meals at home to save money. To leverage the relevant consumer trends of basic kitchen and home keeping skills, the Canned Food Alliance (CFA) will launch a major initiative to reintroduce the lost art of Home Economics. Through strategic media tactics and partnerships, the campaign will provide today’s families with the necessary knowledge to get back to the basics in the kitchen.

The CFA is partnering with Home Economics expert Lauren Groveman to educate moms on the basic kitchen skills that have faded over the years. Groveman, an internationally renowned cooking instructor and author, will deliver relevant messaging connecting the value and nutrition of canned food and the important role they play in today’s kitchen.

The CFA will create an Essential Tool Kit for consumers and the media. Outlining consumer-friendly, how-to tips for every facet of the kitchen, from essential tools to easy recipes, the kit will show how Home Economics skills can live in the homes of today’s families.

The CFA is working with long-time consultant Roberta Duyff to author a position paper focused on how and why rediscovering these skills is important. The position paper, which will be featured in an upcoming issue of the CFA e-newsletter, Today’s Table, is aimed at sparking conversations among key industry influencers.

Three month-long sweepstakes will support the campaign by challenging moms to prepare dinners for one week using the advice in the kit and ingredients in their pantry. Monthly winners will receive gift certificates to restock their pantries with canned food. For more information, contact Rich Tavoletti.
