Recyclable Packaging Ranks Highest with Consumers

RecycleA recent study highlighted in BrandWeek.com and performed by the Hartman Group found that after interviewing 1600 people, 75% of this audience ranked recyclability of a package via curbside bin or drop off was either very important or important. The study also found that in spite of “greenwashing” concerns, four out of five consumers (82%) trust the brands’ green claims. The study concluded that packaging, especially in the food and beverage arena, is a great way for companies to communicate their sustainability message. The number one thing people will respond to is how a package is disposed of, and the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) are understood by the vast majority of consumers to be part of the solution rather than the problem.

The steel can holds the distinction of being food's and beverage's most recycled container. The 2007 recycling rate for steel cans hit a historic high of 65 percent. For more information, contact Bill Heenan.
