AISI’s Construction Technical Program (CTP) has been working to coordinate steel industry response to the newly revised policies and procedures set forth by the International Code Council (ICC) concerning the ICC code development process. These changes, which eliminate the 2009 Supplement, shorten the lead times for the 2012 Editions, reduce length of the hearings, adjust hearing procedures, and impose new policies on such things as ethics, sponsorships and contributions that affect almost all aspects of the code development process.
The most important aspect of these changes for AISI has been the coordination of schedules for the many steel reference standards developed by AISI and its customer associations, and alignment with the many organizations that influence the code development process. For the benefit of its customer associations, AISI’s CTP staff prepared a graphic representation (below), illustrating the time frame for the development of the 2012 edition of the ICC family of codes.

The Steel Industry Code Forum, which is facilitated by AISI to improve communication and provide a forum for collaboration among key industry partner associations on codes, standards and other technical issues, served as an effective conduit for disseminating a series of updates during this process.
