Forged Steel Steering Knuckle Superior in Life Cycle Analysis Study
07/23/2008- Forged steel steering knuckle have significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions than either the cast aluminum or cast iron steering knuckle over their respective life cycles, which were divided into the manufacturing, use and end-of-life phases.
May Steel Shipments Down 0.8 Percent From Last Year
07/21/2008- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of May 2008, U.S. steel mills shipped 9,008,000 net tons, a 0.8 percent decrease from the 9,087,000 net tons shipped in May 2007 and a 4.2 percent decrease from the 9,403,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, April 2008.

AISI Appoints Gibson President and CEO
07/10/2008- Washington, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) today announced the selection of Thomas J. Gibson as the association’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Currently Senior Vice President of Advocacy for the American Chemistry Council (ACC), Gibson will assume his new responsibilities on September 1.
Steel Import Permit Applications Remain at Level of Prior Month
07/02/2008- Washington, D.C. - Based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that steel import permit applications for the month of June totaled 2,533,000 net tons (NT).
AISI Joins American Scrap Coalition
07/02/2008- Washington, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced today that it has joined the American Scrap Coalition (ASC), which is urging strong, immediate government action to eliminate the taxes and other market access barriers that numerous offshore governments maintain on their exports of steel scrap.

ArcelorMittal Invests In Own Ore, Coke Supplies
07/24/2008- The world's biggest steelmaker, Arcelor Mittal, will continue to invest heavily to ensure its own supplies of raw materials, but will not use its advantage to launch a price war, a press report said today.
Russia Plans To Raise Steel Scrap Export Tariffs
07/23/2008- MOSCOW - Russia plans to raise export tariffs on steel scrap to 120-130 euros ($191-207) per tonne to prevent a potential deficit as steel makers build more plants to run on scrap, a high-level government source said on Wednesday. Russia currently applies an tax of 15 percent, or no less than 15 euros ($23.60) per tonne, on exports of scrap used to make steel.
ArcelorMittal Plans To Build Steel Factories In Indonesia
07/23/2008- JAKARTA - World largest steel producer ArcelorMittal would invest in the steel industry in Indonesia from down to up stream sectors with investment of more than 5 billion U.S. dollars, Indonesian industrial ministry said here.

07/21/2008- China violates global trade rules by requiring automakers operating there to buy components from local suppliers or face penalties, the World Trade Organization ruled on Friday.
Timken Raises Earnings Forecast On Global Demand
07/21/2008- Timken Co, a maker of industrial bearings and specialty steel, on Monday issued a second quarter and full-year earnings estimate that was higher than Wall Street expectations, as strong global demand offsets weakness in U.S. auto markets.
