More than 2,500 student linemen, apprentices and journeymen have participated in the SMDI Lineman Training Workshops. 

The materials used in these workshops are available online. The materials listed below can all be found in the hardcopy binders received by each training workshop attendee. The materials have been divided into two sections: for Students and for Instructors.

SMDI has developed several tools to help utility lineman training instructors teach about steel poles, both in the classroom and in the field.  As steel becomes more common in distribution systems, it is important to provide hands-on instruction—with proper safety and handling information—to highly skilled linemen in the workforce today and to those interested in becoming linemen.
