Gregory L. Crawford, Executive Director, Steel Recycling Institute (SRI)

Gregory L. Crawford serves as Executive Director of the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI), a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute.  With many roles in management and engineering, his last 30 years have focused on recycling operations and environmental marketing. 

He provides technical assistance and recycling expertise to private sector and government managers on the methods and benefits of collecting, processing, and recycling steel cans, automobiles, appliances, and construction materials.  He directs the SRI’s national recycling database and hotline.  He is leading the the steel industry in realization of its bold new Vision:  “Steel is widely recognized as the material that augments the well-being of people and the planet.”   

Mr. Crawford also serves on the Board of Directors of Keep America Beautiful.  He was founding Executive Director of the Cool Metal Roofing Coalition and then acted as Secretary and Member of the Board of Directors of the Cool Roof Rating Council.  Earlier, he was chairman of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council, National Recycling Coalition, Buy Recycled Business Alliance, and Sustainable Steel: The International Conference on Steel in Green Building Construction. 

Mr. Crawford holds a BS degree in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY, and an MBA from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT.
