AISI’s Gibson Expresses Sorrow Over Death of Legendary Lawmaker Murtha
02/09/2010- WASHINGTON -- The president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) expressed sorrow today over the death of Congressman John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), whom he described as “a legendary lawmaker who fought on behalf of American workers and, in particular, the American steel industry and its steelworkers” during his 19-term career in Congress.
Steel Import Permits Rise 12% Year-To-Date Finished Steel Import Market Share 17%
02/03/2010- Washington, D.C. - Based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that steel import permit applications for the month of January totaled 1,537,000 net tons (NT).
AISI Publishes Supplement No. 1 To AISI S100, The North American Specification
01/27/2010- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced today that Supplement No. 1 to AISI S100, the North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, 2007 Edition has been published and is available free of charge on AISI’s Web site.
Strong Economy—New Jobs AISI Weighs In on The State of the Union
01/26/2010- Washington, D.C. - As President Obama makes his first State of the Union address, he speaks to Americans nationwide who have identified strengthening the economy and creating jobs as their top priorities for the President and Congress, according to a January 25, 2010, survey by the Pew Research Center.
Preliminary Finished Steel Imports Up 11% in December Finished Steel Imports Decline 45% in 2009 vs. 2008, But Import Market Share at 22% for Year
01/26/2010- Washington, D.C. – Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that the U.S. imported a total of 1,396,000 net tons (NT) of steel in December 2009, including 1,119,000 NT of finished steel (up 1% and 11%, respectively, vs. November final data).

01/22/2010- WASHINGTON: As President Obama visits Lorain County today as part of a 'listening tour' of some of the communities that have felt the pain of the global recession, it is no accident that he is stopping in Lorain, crossroads of Ohio manufacturing and where the steel industry generates 71,000 direct and indirect jobs.
November Steel Shipments Down 11.0 Percent From October
01/21/2010- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of November 2009, U.S. steel mills shipped 5,424,000 net tons, a 11.0 percent decrease from the 6,097,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, October 2009, and a 3.9 percent increase from the 5,223,000 net tons shipped in November 2008.

02/02/2010- LOS ANGELES - A tentative optimism is growing in the West Coast flat-rolled carbon steel market as some buyers who were badly burned last year view the first part of 2010 with more confidence.
Timken Reports 2009 Results And 2010 Outlook
02/02/2010- CANTON, Ohio -The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR) today reported sales of $3.1 billion for 2009, a decrease of 38 percent from a year ago. The sales comparison, which excludes for both periods the results of the Needle Roller Bearings business sold in December (accounted for as "discontinued operations"), reflects weak demand and lower surcharges, partially offset by improved pricing.
Recovery Signs On The Horizon For Major Mills
02/01/2010- Steelmakers are seeing the first blush of a recovery with more orders from manufacturers of autos, appliances and similar products, according to a story by the Associated Press. Yet, the battered industry's full recovery has been stalled largely by a sluggish construction market.
