Mark A. Thimons, P.E., Vice President, Sustainability, Steel Market Development Institute, a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute
Mr. Thimons is responsible for overseeing the Steel Recycling Institute as well as research projects that demonstrate the life cycle advantages of steel in all markets. Focus areas include national, regional and state recycling programs and initiatives, education programs on steel recycling and sustainability topics, life cycle assessment (LCA) studies, as well as other sustainability-related initiatives relevant to the North American steel industry
Mr. Thimons was previously Director, Construction Sustainability for SMDI. In this role, he was responsible for defining and implementing a coordinated industry sustainability program, which included outreach to steel mill experts and customer associations, as well as management of the activities of the AISI Construction Sustainability Council and the Cool Metal Roofing Coalition.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and a LEED accredited professional in the specialty of building design and construction. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council and the Cool Roof Rating Council.
