WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), commented on the passing of former Ohio senator John Glenn:

“John Glenn’s legacy as a national icon will be heralded by many today. We in the steel industry are honored and humbled that his commitment to preserving America’s manufacturing sector – especially for the men and women of the steel industry in Ohio and our customers in the auto industry – can be counted among his many distinguished achievements. His public service legacy remained even after he left public office, having mentored many young people through the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University – including some that went on to serve in the American steel industry. Our thoughts go out today to his family and all of the people of Ohio that he represented with honor, dedication, passion and distinction.”
