WASHINGTON, DC – Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute provided the following statement regarding the retirement of Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) announced today:

“Rep. Dingell has been a long-time supporter of the steel industry. He has helped lead the fight against currency manipulation and other unfair trade practices, advocated for the advanced high strength steel technologies that are changing the auto-making landscape, and has gone to bat for steel companies and their workers in Michigan. His long and distinguished career will be marked by a strong legacy for the steel industry. His leadership, and support for American manufacturing, will be missed.”
