May 20 - 22, 2012
Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay
Cambridge, Maryland

PLEASE JOIN THE AMERICAN IRON AND STEEL INSTITUTE for our 120th General Meeting. We will look at ways we can work together to keep steel and manufacturing in America strong. We will meet jointly with the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) to discuss critical issues for producers and service centers to succeed in the global marketplace.

This year’s meeting will focus on:

  • Keynote— Plywood Leadership: Lessons on Leadership from a Warrior, Statesman, and Scholar -- General Stanley McChrystal (ret.) shares leadership principles such as transparency and inclusion, leveraging the power of teams through shared ownership, evolutionary change vs. revolutionary change, relentless mission focus, and sharing a clear vision with everyone who must execute against it.

  • Economic Outlook 2012 -- Learn what the chief economist of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has to say about the effectiveness of government fiscal and jobs-related policies as well as his insights into an outlook for the U.S. economy.

  • A Vision for Energy: “New Conventional” Sources and U.S. Policy Implications -- Aubrey McClendon, chief executive of Chesapeake Energy Corp., the second largest domestic producer of natural gas, will provide his insights and vision for exploring "new conventional" sources of energy. Natural gas is clean, affordable, abundant and American. How can the United States government and industry best support further development of technological expertise and the commercialization of new domestic sources of energy? What are the policy and economic implications of this newfound abundance?

  • Agenda for America: Political Outlook -- What’s next for the Republican Party? The Honorable Haley Barbour (R-MS), former governor of Mississippi presents an insider’s look at elections, strategy, and policy. He also examines progress in the Gulf region, and the future of America’s energy production.

  • A Manufacturing Renaissance: Four Goals for Economic Growth -- With 21 percent of global manufactured goods produced in the U.S., we are the world’s largest manufacturing economy. But our own country’s policies are threatening that leadership position. Hear the leader of the National Association of Manufacturers, Jay Timmons, outline what is standing in our way, how and what we need to do to compete and succeed in the global economy.

  • AISI General Session: Sustainability as a Driver for Market Growth and Differentiation -- Enterprises today sustain our economy, communities and the environment—but how do we measure success and what role does sustainability play in the marketplace? Our panel of experts will explore key questions examining if sustainability is a real market driver or the next fad to come down the pike.

  • Politics: 2012 -- Widely regarded as one of the nation’s keenest observers of U.S. elections and political trends, Charlie Cook, publisher of the Cook Political Report and columnist of National Journal, will share meaningful insight to provide the sharpest political handicapping.
