JAMES L. WAINSCOTT, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, AK Steel Corporation

Vice Chairman, American Iron and Steel Institute

Jim Wainscott has served in the steel industry for nearly 30 years.  He began his career in the steel business with the former National Steel Corporation where he held a number of executive level positions. 

He joined AK Steel as Vice President and Treasurer in 1995, and became Chief Financial Officer in 1998.  He was named President, CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of AK Steel in 2003, and Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2006.

Mr. Wainscott is the Immediate Past Chairman of AISI, and currently serves as AISI’s Vice Chairman.  He has also served in the past as Chairman of AISI’s Policy and Planning Committee as well as its Finance Committee.  

He is a member of the Board of Directors of Parker Hannifin Corporation, and is a member of the Washington, DC-based Business Roundtable and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s Ohio Export Advisory Group.  He also serves in volunteer leadership positions with a number of educational and charitable organizations, including as a member of the Board of Trustees of Xavier University and Chairman of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

Mr. Wainscott has received the Gary Memorial Medal, AISI’s highest honor, for his lifelong contributions to the North American steel industry.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ball State University and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame. 

AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, primarily for the automotive, appliance, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets.  AK Tube LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AK Steel, produces carbon and stainless electric resistance welded (ERW) tubular steel products for truck, automotive and other markets.
