Steel Joist Institute Announces the Final Webinar of 2017 on Ethics, Laws and Regulations

FLORENCE, S.C., November 20, 2017 – The Steel Joist Institute (SJI) is hosting its final webinar of the year in partnership with Stites & Harbison, PLLC. The “Ethics, Laws and Regulations” webinar will take place on Wednesday, December 6 from 3:00 – 4:45 p.m. (EDT), followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

Stites & Harbison is a preeminent Southeastern-based law firm with a specialty in construction-related issues. The firm will explore a professional engineer’s ethical and contractual obligations, as well as the legal issues that may arise if one fails to act in accordance with those obligations. The presentation will focus on issues pertinent to the steel industry and will feature case studies where an engineer’s ethical or contractual duties took center stage in a legal dispute.

Structural engineers, fabricators, detailers and connection design firms who are responsible for steel joist and Joist Girder building designs and their connections will benefit from this course. Attendees will learn about the ethical duties established in regulations and codes published by various professional societies; contract clauses impacting the engineer’s obligations; the standard of care applied in evaluating claims against engineers; and specific application of issues pertinent to the steel industry.

Individual and site registration is now available online at steeljoist.org/decwebinar. Individual registration cost is $75. Each person who registers will receive his or her own link to the webinar, earn 0.20 CEUs or 2.0 PDHs, and receive a certificate of completion from SJI. For this webinar, SJI is not approved for Florida Professional Ethics Continuing Education. Site registration is also available for $300, allowing multiple attendees from the same company to utilize one link to the webinar.
