SMDI’S Jody Hall Featured Speaker at 2015 Association of Women in the Metal Industries Detroit Chapter Annual Dinner

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 30, 2015 - The Steel Market Development Institute’s (SMDI) Vice President for the automotive market, Jody Hall, was the featured speaker at the 2015 Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) Detroit Chapter Annual Industry Dinner, held Tuesday, April 28 at the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit.

“I know how important organizations like AWMI are to further promote opportunities for women in the metals industry,” said Hall. “So, to be the featured speaker at the group’s annual dinner was an honor. It’s really exciting time in the material’s industry and we hope more women continue to take part in science, technology, engineering and math fields.”

According, to AWMI, the Annual Industry Dinner is the association’s most important educational event. Hall spoke about her professional background working at General Motors Co. with responsibilities ranging from research and development of new materials and manufacturing processes to solving current production problems. In addition, she talked about how SMDI works to protect and grow interest in the use of steel by bringing together the North American steel industry and automakers. In addition to Hall’s presentation, the AWMI gave an update on the economic outlook for the metals industry.

The AWMI is an organization of professionals, founded in California in 1981, to promote and develop the growth of women in the metal industries. AWMI believes women in similar industries can benefit themselves and their companies through relationships, education and shared knowledge. The programs and activities of AWMI are intended to enhance members’ skills and experience, address challenges confronting the industry, and promote members' career growth with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of women employed in the metal industries.
