CFSEI Expo 2014 Includes Mill Tour of Nucor Steel Arkansas

WASHINGTON, DC, April 15, 2014 —The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) will host its Annual Expo and Meeting on May 19-20, 2014 at the historic Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. This year’s event offers a complete mill tour of Nucor Steel Arkansas (located in Armorel) of hot and cold side operations including electric arc furnaces, vacuum degasser, casters, hot strip mill, pickle line, reversing/temper mill and galvanizing line.

“Along with the comprehensive educational program and networking opportunities that are hallmarks of the CFSEI Expo, we are looking forward to providing these architects, builders, contractors, and engineers with the complete steelmaking experience so that they can better understand the manufacturing processes behind and the sustainability of cold-formed steel framing,” said Maribeth Rizzuto, LEED AP – BD&C, managing director of the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute. “The mill tour will take place on May 21. We appreciate having the employees of Nucor Steel Arkansas open their doors to us and are pleased to offer this opportunity to the CFSEI Expo attendees.”

The CFSEI Expo 2014 will include sessions on several topics, including ASCE 7-10 wind loads; blast design; mechanical bridging and bracing; metal buildings; cold-formed steel studs; updates to the AISI Brick Veneer Cold-Formed Steel Framing Design Guide; a preview of AISI S310-13, North American Standard for the Design of Profiled Steel Diaphragm Panels, which will be published later this year; and a look forward to the Diaphragm Design Manual that is due out in early 2015.
