CFSEI to Host Presentation on the Proper Use of Cold-Formed Steel Trusses to Resist Lateral Loads on Buildings

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 8, 2013 —The Florida Chapter of the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) will host a presentation on the “Proper Use of Cold-Formed Steel Trusses to Resist Lateral Loads on Buildings” on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the ITW Building Components Group, Inc. location in Orlando, FL. The presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time. It will demonstrate the proper way to specify and detail the role of cold-formed steel trusses in the lateral resistance system of a building. The presentation will include instruction on the types of lateral load-resisting systems, the locations of the truss bearing resistance for lateral loads, the connections of trusses to bearings, and proper specifications and detailing regarding loads and truss locations. Participants are eligible for 1.0 Professional Development Hours of continuing education for engineers.

The presenter is Bill Babich, P.E., director of engineering for TrusSteel, a provider of cold-formed steel truss engineering and technology utilizing the TrusSteel System. Babich has been involved in the prefabricated truss industry for the past 27 years. He is a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Committee on Framing Standards and the chairman of its Truss Subcommittee, as well as treasurer of the CFSEI Florida Chapter. More information on the webinar and registration details are available at www.cfsei.org.

The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute comprises hundreds of structural engineers and other design professionals who are finding a better way to produce safe and efficient designs for commercial and residential structures with cold-formed steel. CFSEI members work together to develop and evolve industry standards and design methods, produce and issue technical bulletins, and provide seminars and online training to improve the knowledge and skills base of engineers and design professionals.
