AISI Commends President Obama's Decision to Halt Smog Standards Proposal

Washington, D.C. - Commenting on President Obama's decision to request that the Environmental Protection Agency withdraw its proposal for a new national ozone ambient air standard, Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) said:

"The original ozone proposal would have had a negative effect on investment, economic growth and job creation in the steel industry and manufacturing overall.  We commend the President for his decision to withdraw the proposal.  As recent economic data has shown, our economy is in need of investment and regulatory certainty in order to grow and create jobs.  Promulgating a burdensome new ozone regulation now would only hamper this from occuring."
