American Iron and Steel Institute Kicks off “STEELWORKS” Blog

SteelWorks will be the hub for AISI news and public policy updates

Washington, D.C., 8/11/2010 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has unveiled its first official blog, SteelWorks, today that will focus on AISI’s public policy agenda and highlight critical policy issues that affect the steel industry.

“Along with our website, we hope that SteelWorks will be another valuable source where people can gather information,” AISI President and CEO Thomas J. Gibson commented.  “This blog will be used to communicate AISI’s stance on various policies in conjunction with the latest developments on Capitol Hill.  In the coming weeks, I will be posting weekly columns about significant issues that we hope Congress will take action on when they return from August recess.”

Gibson’s first post on China’s currency manipulation emphasizes how American manufacturers and workers are being harmed.    “Jobs are flying out of our country in the blink of an eye as we allow China to continue to prosper from mercantilistic and market-distorting industrial practices.    When Congress returns from its August recess, it must take up and pass immediately the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act (H.R. 2378) and the Currency Exchange Rate Reform Act of 2010 (S. 3134).”  To read more, go to SteelWorks.

AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice.  AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology.  AISI is comprised of 23 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 138 associate and affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry.  AISI's member companies represent approximately 75 percent of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.  For more news about steel and its applications, view AISI’s Web site at www.steel.org.
