AISI's Statement About the Confirmation of Former Gov. Gary Locke as Secretary of Commerce

March 25, 2009

"We look forward to working with Gary Locke in this new capacity. The Department of Commerce has a critical role in countering unfair trade practices, restoring market forces and promoting the interests of U.S. manufacturing, which is now in crisis. Commerce is the lead agency responsible for applying and enforcing our nation’s antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) laws, which remain a vital, last line of defense against foreign unfair trade. AISI will work closely with the new leadership team at Commerce to preserve the effectiveness of America’s laws against dumped and subsidized imports in international negotiations, and to support much needed enhancements of our AD/CVD laws through domestic legislation."
