 AISI responds to steel customers by providing recycling
support, technical and design information on steel, and promotion of
steel's competitive position in the appliance market.
Outside
Processors
 AISI focuses on building relationships between steel
producers and outside processors/storage facilities through the work of
its Outside Processors Committee. The objective is to seek improvements
in customer service, enhance information exchange, and identify cost
reductions in order to meet the demands of the marketplace.
Railcar
AISI created its Railcar Market Program in 1991 to develop a strategy
for recapturing the unit train coal gondola market by replacing aluminum
with high-strength low alloy (HSLA) steels.
Shipbuilding
 AISI’s Shipbuilding Market Task Group was
formed in 1995 to identify mutual areas of opportunity for the steel and
shipbuilding industries to make the U.S. more competitive in the
commercial shipbuilding marketplace.
