Week's Raw Steel Production

In the week ending March 6, 2010, domestic raw
steel production was 1,683,000 net tons while the capability utilization
rate was 69.2 percent. Production was 995,000 tons in the week
ending March 6, 2009, while the capability utilization then
was 41.7 percent. The current week production represents
a 69.2 percent increase from the same period in the
previous year. Production for the week ending March 6, 2010
is up 0.9 percent from the previous week ending February
27, 2010 when production was 1,668,000 tons and the rate of capability
utilization was 69.0 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through March 6, 2010 was
14,952,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 66.6 percent.
That is a 55.8 percent increase from the 9,599,000 tons during the
same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 42.9 percent.
Broken down by districts, here's production for the week
ending March 6, 2010 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:
143; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 107; Lake Erie: 47; Detroit: 117;
Indiana/Chicago: 416; Midwest: 238; Southern: 541 and Western:
