This Week's Raw Steel Production

In the week ending August 28, 2010, domestic raw steel production was 1,698,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 70.2 percent. Production was 1,381,000 tons in the week ending August 28, 2009, while the capability utilization then was 57.7 percent. The current week production represents a 23.0 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending August 28, 2010 is down 1.9 percent from the previous week ending August 21, 2010 when production was 1,730,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 71.5 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 28, 2010 was 58,601,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.7 percent. That is a 54.9 percent increase from the 37,830,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 46.2 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending August 28, 2010 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast: 84; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 126; Lake Erie: 44; Detroit: 109; Indiana/Chicago: 435; Midwest: 244; Southern: 578 and Western: 78.
