KEITH BUSSE,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Steel Dynamics, Inc
Keith Busse is the Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of Steel Dynamics, Inc (SDI), a producer of flat-rolled carbon
steels and shapes, formed by Busse and his management team in 1993.
He was president and CEO of the company until 2006.
With the 2007 purchase of
Omnisource Corporation, SDI became a major player in the ferrous scrap
processing industry as well as one of the nation’s top producers
of carbon steel. In 2009 SDI expects to be capable of producing nearly
seven million tons of carbon steel, galvanizing two million tons of
steel and processing more than six million tons of ferrous scrap.
SDI generated 2007 sales of $4.4 Billion. Including Omnisource
revenues, the combined company is capable of producing annual net sales
in the range of $6 - 8 billion.
SDI is included in the S&P Mid-Cap 400 Index and
the NASDAQ 100 Index and was named the most
admired company in the metals industry by Fortune Magazine in
2008.
Prior to his role as Chairman and
CEO, Busse held various key positions at Nucor
Corporation from operations manager to vice president and general
manager, respectively, and is noted for leading the project development
team that gave Nucor and the world the first commercial compact strip
production facility.
Busse has received numerous
citations for his outstanding accomplishments in the steel
industry. He was the 2008 and 2006 recipient of the Iverson-Selig
Award, which honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions
to the mini-mill industry. He was presented the Steel Man of the Year
Award by the Association of the Steel Distributors and the Steel Maker
of the Year Award by the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers
(AIST). In 2003, Busse received the Sagamore of the Wabash,
Indiana’s highest
citizen’s award.
Busse is the 2008-2009 Chairman of the American Iron
and Steel Instituteand was the 2004-2005
Chairman of the Steel Manufacturers Association. He is also serves
on several other boards including: the Tower Financial Corporation
(Public Co.) and Tower Bank; the Athletic Board of Directors –
Indiana University/Purdue University @ Fort Wayne, Indiana; Ft. Wayne
Jr. Achievement Board of Directors and the Ft. Wayne Community
Foundation; N.E. Indiana Corporate Council Board & Executive
Committee andthe N.E.
Regional Economic Development Board. He is also a trustee at the
University of St. Francis and the Tri-State
University.
Busse holds a Bachelors degree in
Accounting from International
Business College; a Bachelors degree in Business
Finance from St. Francis College
and an MBA from Indiana University.
His hobbies include athletics,
sports cars and firearms.
