AISI PUBLISHES DESIGN FLOWCHART FOR USING THE NORTH
AMERICAN SPECIFICATION AND AISI COLD-FORMED STEEL DESIGN
MANUAL
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and
Steel Institute (AISI) announced today the publication of a Design
Flowchart for using the 2007 Edition of the North American Specification and the 2008 Edition of
the AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual.
The document is available to download free of
charge. Download here.
This design tool provides an overview of the
North
American Specification and the
AISI
Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual, outlines the
overall consideration of cold-formed steel design, and draws
correlations between the Specificationdesign provisions and the
corresponding design tables, charts and examples provided in the design
manual. It consists of 22 pages.
Jay Larson, P.E., F. ASCE,
managing director, construction technical for AISI, said:
“The AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design
Manual provides useful supplemental materials
to AISI S100, the North American Specification. This
new design flowchart will help users find examples in the design manual
that illustrate the design provisions in the North American
Specification. It will also help them use the
tables and charts that implement the corresponding design provisions. An
added benefit is that the flowchart outlines the steps that a design
engineer needs to consider when designing with cold-formed steel
members.”
AISI’s codes and standards work is conducted
under the Construction Market Council of AISI’s Steel Market
Development Institute (SMDI). The SMDI oversees the industry’s
investment in advancing the case for steel in the marketplace as
the preferred material of choice. AISI serves as the voice of the North
American steel industry in the public policy arena and plays a lead role
in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking
technology. AISI is comprised of 24 member companies, including
integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 138 associate and
affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel
industry. AISI’s member companies represent over 75 percent of
both U.S. and North American steel
capacity. For more news about steel and its applications, view
AISI’s Web site at www.steel.org.
