Steel Market Development Institute Overview
The Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) is a business unit of
the American Iron and Steel
Institute (AISI). Founded in August
2008, SMDI’s objective is to grow the markets for steel in the
automotive, construction, energy and container
industries. SMDI also educates local, state and federal officials
on the benefits of steel (such as its recyclability and its low life
cycle emissions compared to other materials) to encourate public
policies which provide a level playing field for steel products.
The SMDI is comprised of the following market groups and
functions:

- Market Innovation and Growth Task Group
